Herpes symptoms are important to know as there are many people today who are afflicted with this malady and are completely unaware that they are infected. Further, there are those who have a more common type of herpes, know they have it, yet do not realize it for the serious disease that it is.

First of all, there is actually more than one strain of this illness, though the two most common strains produce the exact same herpes symptoms. This is to say that the oral (on the lips of the mouth) and the genital forms of the viral infection are the same, but merely in two separate sectors of the body.

Herpes symptoms are not always symptoms at all. Some people go through life carrying this viral contagion and affecting their partners without even realizing they're doing so. This can be seen on the lips of people as cold sores. Every time a person kisses another while having an outbreak of even one, tiny, cold sore, the virus is spread. This is extremely important to realize as, likewise, a person who performs oral sex while having cold sores on the lips can infect his or her partner at the area of their genitalia, resulting in genital herpes.

While some experience no herpes symptoms at all in the genitalia region, others are given some indication of their problem merely with a mere tingling that may (or not) result in burning, reddening, puffiness, or even bumps. Aside from having no herpes symptoms altogether, this is probably the least problematic of signs that one has contracted this disease.

The symptoms need not be continually present, either. They come and go, almost seemingly arising spontaneously. Doctors have found, however, that such manifestations of this highly contagious disease usually is triggered by stress, alcohol or drug abuse, and other disease or sickness, all of which hamper the body's ability to heal itself.

Other, more problematic herpes symptoms include ache or overt pain, a rash, cuts, blisters, sores, penile or vaginal discharge, burning during urination, and even fever and headaches. Further, glands in the neck will be stiff, swollen, and ache. This list is by no means comprehensive as herpes symptoms appear differently from person to person and may even change with each new outbreak.

Unfortunately there is no absolute cure for eliminating this virus from the body. While medical science continues to find new ways to destroy herpes, it is the symptoms themselves that medicine is best able to curtail, though even this is not always absolute. As well, even if the symptoms are not apparent, whether due to being between outbreaks or inhibited by medicine, the virus can still be spread, so caution must be taken.

The best practice for those exhibiting such dermal conditions is to seek medical advice immediately and to inform any sex partners of the problem.
